Volunteer opportunities have been adjusted due to safety guidelines and museum needs. At this time all applicants must be at least 18 years and willing to follow all museum safety guidelines provided.
Sunwatch is now accepting applications!
When you volunteer at a Dayton Society of Natural History location like the Boonshoft or SunWatch, you join a team of volunteers who represent multiple ages, interests, and areas of expertise, from former teachers and retired engineers, to teens and college students looking to expand their horizons through volunteerism. The Dayton Society of Natural History has an opportunity for everyone to contribute to meaningful projects and get hands-on while interacting with the community---all while having fun and meeting new people.
Below you will find short summaries of the volunteer opportunities being offered at this location. Volunteers receive a basic orientation to learn about Sunwatch and receive training for their specific position as they work alongside staff in their assignments. All applicants must submit an online application, pass an interview, and submit any required paperwork.

Interpretive Volunteers
SunWatch Interpretive Volunteers will share the history of SunWatch with our guests. Students and adults enjoy our guided tours which provide them with information and hands-on activities that take them back in time. Guided tours last around 2 hours and include a 12-minute introductory film, overview of the indoor exhibit and tour of the village outside. Volunteers will be responsible for starting groups in the film and facilitating guided exhibit and village interpretation – complete training is provided and a desire to share the past is all that is required!
